Accreditations, Honors & Awards

Professional accreditations, honors and awards are a reflection of the rigorous process we invite from independent evaluators, allowing us to compare our performance with health care organizations across the country. It ensures that we meet – or exceed – stringent professional standards.

Awards provide further affirmation of NorthBay Healthcare’s commitment to quality of care.

Additionally, NorthBay Healthcare has been part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network since 2016, an alliance that further enhances the exceptional care NorthBay Healthcare is able to provide our patients. Patients receive answers to complex medical questions—and peace of mind— while staying close to home. NorthBay physicians connect electronically and directly with Mayo specialists for additional input on a patient’s care and at no cost to the patient.

Here are NorthBay Healthcare’s accreditations, honors and awards for 2021:

U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals

U.S. News & World Report listed NorthBay Medical Center as one of the top 50 hospitals in the state.

The July Best Hospitals announcement by the magazine recognized NorthBay as a High Performing Hospital in one specialty -- Urology -- and also earned “High Performing” ratings for six specific specialty procedures and conditions: diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, pneumonia and stroke.

In December U.S. News & World Reports followed up on its list adding NorthBay maternity care to its “High Performing” list.

Maternity Honor Roll

In October, NorthBay Medical Center made the California Health and Human Services, along with Cal Hospital Compare’s Maternity Honor Roll, as one of just 124 hospitals that met or surpassed a statewide target aimed at reducing births via cesarean sections in first-time mothers with low-risk pregnancies.

Chest Pain Accreditation

The American College of Cardiology again recognized NorthBay Healthcare for its expertise and commitment in treating patients with chest pain, awarding it Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI. It is a designation that NorthBay has repeatedly earned since 2009. The accreditation is based on rigorous onsite evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

Excellence in Healthcare Award

NorthBay Medical Group, for the second year in a row, earned the 2021 Excellence in Healthcare Award from the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA) for top performance on clinical quality, patient experience, and cost measures. In addition, the organization also honored NorthBay Medical Group with an award for achieving the 90th percentile or above in IHA’s patient experience measurements. The award recognizes provider organizations that perform in the top 50 percent in all three major areas: clinical quality, patient experience, and total cost of care.

Stroke GoldPlus Award

For the fifth consecutive year, NorthBay Healthcare received the American Heart Association’s GoldPlus Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Quality Achievement Award, for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines. NorthBay also earned the association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll award and the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award.

Trauma Program Re-certified

NorthBay’s Trauma program earned a three-year recertification in June from the American College of Surgeons. Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. The achievement recognized NorthBay’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.

Joint Commission Certification

Certification by The Joint Commission was also achieved in 2021 after a year’s delay because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Joint Commission’s survey team toured and reviewed NorthBay’s hospitals in June and returned in August to follow up on a few findings that were rectified.
