NorthBay Healthcare has a long tradition of service to the Solano County region, continually improving and expanding services to meet the growing community’s needs. The origins of NorthBay Healthcare date back to 1956.
Community leaders from Fairfield and Vacaville initiated a fund drive to build a hospital that would serve families throughout upper Solano County.
The 32-bed, nonprofit Intercommunity Hospital opened its doors.
Community growth sparked the construction of a new health care facility, Intercommunity Hospital.
Intercommunity Hospital expanded to 108 beds.
The need for a hospital in Vacaville became apparent and a ital campaign began.
Intercommunity Hospital added a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
A corporate reorganization changed the organization's name to NorthBay Healthcare. Intercommunity Hospital became NorthBay Medical Center.
NorthBay Healthcare opened the 50-bed NorthBay VacaValley Hospital following a $1.2 million community fund-raising project.
An addition to NorthBay Medical Center included a larger maternity department featuring labor/delivery/recovery rooms (LDRs), a larger Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a larger ER and a state-of-the-art critical care unit, bringing the hospital to 132-bed capacity.
New NorthBay Medical Center Emergency Department opens.
The NorthBay Center for Primary Care opens its first medical office in Vacaville.

NorthBay again is certified as a Baby-Friendly Hospital.
NorthBay begins its robotic surgery program.
NorthBay Medical Center works with Travis Air Force Base, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state and local public health departments to care for any medical needs of evacuees from China, and later evacuees from a cruise ship afflicted with COVID-19.
NorthBay VacaValley Hospital treats the first patient in the country who acquired COVID-19 through community spread.
NorthBay Urgent Care opens a second location, this one in Fairfield, a block from NorthBay Medical Center. The two Urgent Care facilities play a key role in conducting COVID-19 testing.
NorthBay Healthcare continues to treat COVID-19 patients through the year, at the same time rallying with vaccinations for staff, patients and the community, hosting clinics throughout the county and participating in a countywide mass vaccination clinic at the Solano County Fairgrounds.
NorthBay Medical Center is ranked one of the 50 best hospitals in the state by the U.S. News & World Reports. Urology, and treatment of diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, pneumonia and stroke procedures/conditions also earned “high performing” rankings.
NorthBay Medical Group earns the 2021 Excellence in Healthcare Award from the Integrated Healthcare Association for top performance on clinical quality, patient experience and cost measures.
NorthBay Trauma earns a three-year recertification from the American College of Surgeons.
NorthBay Medical Group partners with Hill Physicians Medical Group, making it the state’s largest independent physician association and also the largest in Solano County.
NorthBay Healthcare breaks ground in American Canyon for a new Center for Urgent Care, in collaboration with Carbon Health.
