Guild Gears up for its Diamond Celebration

The NorthBay Guild celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2017, and its volunteers invited everyone to celebrate along with them, through a series of special events.

The Guild's celebration officially kicked off the week of Feb. 13 and concluded in late April, during Volunteer Appreciation Week, according to Jane Hilliard, director of Volunteer Services.

The organization's official birthday is Feb. 7, 1957, the day a number of “civic-minded women” — interested in supporting Northern Solano County's only hospital — gathered in Dixon to discuss forming a group of volunteers. The hospital at that time had just 15 beds, was seriously overcrowded and the women wanted to raise funds to help build a new one.

The women – wives of judges, physicians, civic and business leaders – signed a pact that day and immediately got to work. Sixty years later, the hard work and fundraising prowess of those volunteers and their successors has been stamped on every NorthBay nook and cranny, Hilliard noted.

Guild members delivered celebratory goodies to employees throughout the NorthBay system in early February, and then invited employees to videotape a three-word message describing their feelings about the Guild's help and fundraising work. A prize was awarded to the best video, which was then shown during the annual Guild Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, held in April.
