It’s an Investment in Youth

By joining the Solano Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, NorthBay Healthcare has invested in local students pursuing their dream of higher education.

In 2018 NorthBay Healthcare funded two scholarships within the Inspire Learning project of the chamber. They were awarded March 10 at the Hilton Garden Inn, site of the annual Chamber Gala.

President and CEO Konard Jones presented one award to Jocelyn Gonzalez, a University of California, Davis, grad who is attending California State University East Bay in a program to prepare her for medical school. She hopes to become a primary care physician. The other recipient is Jennifer Aguilar, who is studying at Napa Valley College in hopes of one day becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Financial support obviously makes a difference, Konard said. He received this note of appreciation from Jocelyn:

“It is really encouraging and humbling to have your community believe in you, and I am inspired to continue with my journey.

“Growing up in Fairfield, NorthBay Healthcare has been very influential in my decision to pursue a career in medicine. When I was 15 years old, I participated in NorthBay’s shadowing program. I was able to see five surgeries that day, which was an incredible experience for someone who was beginning to explore career paths. Later, I also participated in NorthBay’s successful Nurse Camp, which was a wonderful hands-on experience led by inspiring health professionals. Most recently, I was a medical scribe for one of NorthBay’s physicians, which has also allowed me to see patient care up close and personal. In all my experiences, I have felt supported by all the staff and I am very grateful for these opportunities.”
