Racing for Charity

Great race go-cart #13

Dozens of competitors put the pedal to the metal on April 7, all in the spirit of charity.

The fundraiser at Driven Raceway, the indoor go-cart speedway in Fairfield, pitted amateurs against veteran NASCAR racer Jim Inglebright. Funds raised went to support the programs of The Leaven, an after-school tutoring program that targets at-risk youth.

The Solano Great Race is an event that has been co-sponsored for four years by NorthBay Healthcare. Inglebright, a veteran of three different pro race circuits and a NorthBay Healthcare Foundation board member, showed up to put in a few “hot laps” and set a time for others to beat.

Team NorthBay's racers included Trauma Surgeon Dr. Peter Zopfi, Trauma Program Director Heather Venezio, Director of Diagnostic Imaging Jerry Wilcox and Foundation President Brett Johnson.

The Great Race was started four years ago by the Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Today class. Wilcox was a key organizer of that first race and was thrilled to be at this year's event.

“It has become an important part of helping The Leven's children of Fairfield get a level playing field with other students in the area,” he said.
