Honoring First Responders on 9/11

When the first anniversary of 9/11 came around, NorthBay VacaValley Hospital Emergency Room Tech Dawn Switzer knew she had to do something special to acknowledge local first responders.

“We want our first responders to know we appreciate everything they do to keep our community safe. They put their lives on the line for us, and even though they didn’t respond to the 9/11 attacks, they show that same courage every day,” Dawn said.

So she partnered with her Emergency Department family to put together a potluck of homemade goods, and then invited firefighters, police, sheriff and ambulance crews to stop in for a bite to eat. “It was phenomenal. They responded then, 18 years later, and they’re still coming by today to enjoy a meal with us, and let us say, ‘Thank you,’” said Dawn.
